Forest School
Welcome to our Forest School, where the great outdoors becomes the ultimate classroom! Rooted in the traditional Scandinavian philosophy of friluftsliv (free-air life), our forest school programme provides children with immersive opportunities to learn, explore, and grow in a natural woodland environment. Far from a standard playground activity, it is a learner-led educational process designed to foster confidence, independence, and a lifelong connection to the natural world.
Guided by a fully qualified practitioner, our sessions focus on the holistic development of every child. Through hands-on activities, students safely navigate new challenges, build resilience, and develop vital social skills.
What We Do at Forest School
Our curriculum shifts with the seasons, allowing children to experience nature’s rhythms first-hand. Key activities include:
- Shelter & Den Building: Working collaboratively to design and build structures using natural materials.
- Woodland Crafts & Art: Creating mud kitchen potions, charcoal sketches, and natural sculptures.
- Supervised Risk-Taking: Learning life skills like slackline climbing, tool use, and campfire cooking under careful supervision.
- Wildlife & Ecology Exploration: Discovering local habitats, identifying fungi, and tracking minibeasts.
The Core Benefits
- Boosts Self-Esteem: Achieving small victories outdoors builds deep, lasting personal confidence.
- Enhances Wellbeing: Spending time in green spaces reduces stress and supports physical and mental health.
- Develops Teamwork & Problem Solving: Children collaborate in groups, learning empathy and communication.
- Encourages Stewardship: Experiencing nature directly teaches responsibility for conservation and our planet's future.
At our school, we believe that nature and movement are essential to a child's growth. We look forward to seeing your child pull on their wellies, splash in the mud, and discover their full potential in our outdoor sanctuary!
